Bedřich Smetana's My Country opens Prague Spring music festival
Bedřich Smetana's My Country performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of chief conductor Semyon Byčkov opened the 80th Prague Spring music festival at the Municipal House Prague on Monday night. The opening concert, which was sold out in a matter of days, was attended by President Pavel and his wife Eva, Prime Minister Petr Fiala and the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda, among others. The musicians were rewarded with a standing ovation. Smetana’s cycle of symphonic poems My Country opens the Prague Spring every year. Between now and June 3rd the festival will offer music lovers some 50 concerts in different venues in the Czech capital.
