Creators of video content on the Internet will need to register with Broadcasting Council

Under an amendment to the Media Act, creators of video content on the internet will have to register with the Radio and Television Broadcasting Council if they produce over 50 videos a year, which are viewed by at least half a million people a year and their annual income exceeds CZK 50,000. Those who meet the conditions will be approached by the Council itself. According to the Council, the main purpose of the providers subject to registration must be to offer programmes to the general public for the purpose of information, entertainment or education through platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. The Council is responding to a European directive that seeks to protect children online and sets rules for the dissemination of commercial communications to protect consumers.
