Female MPs face psychological and sexualised violence in Czechia

Czech female members of parliament from all political parties and movements face psychological and sexualised violence. Attacks against them tend to be much more personal than those aimed at their male colleagues. Some female politicians have begun avoiding certain topics and have reduced their political activity due to fear of hate attacks and harassment. This was revealed by a study focused on violence against female MPs.

The findings were presented on Tuesday at a seminar in the Chamber of Deputies by one of the authors, Markéta Kos Mottlová from the organization Forum 50%. In the second half of last year, 36 out of 51 female members of parliament responded to the study, all of whom described their own experiences. All also had at least one social media profile.
