Senate’s Committee for Expats urges more funds for Czech diaspora abroad

The Senate’s Committee for Expats has advised increasing the annual budget in support of the Czech cultural heritage abroad. The Committee sees the benefits of the program not only in the promotion of the Czech Republic abroad through the Czech diaspora, but also in linking the professional activities of Czechs abroad with their homeland. It argues that the support of compatriots abroad is important because it brings innovations, scientific knowledge and money from abroad back to the Czech Republic. For the last five-year period, the government allocated a total of CZK 566.5 million from the budgets of the ministries of education, foreign affairs and health for the program to support the Czech language and Czech diaspora abroad. The money is used, among others, to support the network of Czech schools abroad.
