Traffic police out in force for Speed Marathon
Traffic police are out in force around the country on Wednesday for the annual Speed Marathon aimed at cracking down on the most common offense on Czech roads. The controls will also focus on other offences, such as talking on a hand-held phone while driving and the technical condition of vehicles. Officers are posted in over 1,000 locations that the public helped to select. More than 700 officers took part in the Speed Marathon last April checking almost 4,700 vehicles. And even though drivers knew about it in advance, they still committed more than two thousand offences, of which 1,500 were speeding.
