Sněžka Mountain summit hosts ‘Tibetan flag on the roof of the republic’ event, Ukrainian flag also flown

Over thirty people in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) on Saturday took part in the ‘Tibetan flag on the roof of the republic’ event, a climb with flags to the top of Czechia’s highest mountain, Sněžka, organised annually to express support for Tibet and other peoples denied the right to freedom. The Ukrainian flag also flew on Sněžka alongside Tibetan flags.

The outing was co-organised by the non-profit organisation Czechs Support Tibet and the local information centre Veselý výlet, and was authorised by the Krkonoše National Park Administration. The participants set off for the summit from Pec pod Sněžkou and Malá Úpa. The event was accompanied by sunny weather and with temperatures above zero, one of the organisers, Senator Přemysl Rabas, told ČTK. The event is connected to the ‘Flag for Tibet’ campaign, which is marked on March 10th, the anniversary of the start of the anti-Chinese uprising in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa in 1959.
