Prague police check 400 taxi drivers, impose fines of 300,000 crowns
An extensive security operation in recent days has seen Prague police officers and the foreign police checking four hundred taxi drivers, and imposing fines of more than 300,000 crowns, Prague police spokesman Richard Hrdina reported on Tuesday. The police reported fifteen cases to administrative authorities, while one driver ended up at the police station with a driving ban.
"The patrols checked not only valid documents, residence permits and work visas, but also, for example, correct vehicle markings and the use of mobile applications," spokesman Hrdina said. They detained several taxi drivers who were residing in Czechia without the appropriate permit. Since 2021, the number of vehicles registered for taxi services in Prague has increased sharply, a number that includes both standard and alternative taxi services such as Uber and Bolt.
