Monumental clean-up at St. Vitus Cathedral

Prague's iconic St. Vitus Cathedral has undergone a major cleaning for the first time in forty years, carried out by a team of climbers using vacuum cleaners.

Petr Chotěbor, a representative of the Monument Preservation Department of the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, explained that erecting scaffolding to reach all the windows would have been extremely costly and would have required closing the cathedral’s interior to the public. Thanks to the climbers, the cleaning was completed without disrupting visits to one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
