Czech MPs may consider increase in Czech Television and Czech Radio fees and extradition of Okamura

On Wednesday, Czech MPs could begin the final approval of the controversial amendment on the increase in television and radio fees with the expansion of the circle of taxpayers, and in the afternoon, they will consider the police request to extradite the chairman of the opposition Freedom and Direct Democracy party (SPD), Tomi Okamura, for criminal prosecution. MPs will also continue discussing the report of the investigative committee on the shooting at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in 2023.

The final approval of the controversial government amendment on fees for Czech Television and Czech Radio was blocked by opposition parties at the last regular meeting. The ruling coalition has therefore called an extraordinary meeting for the final round of its assessment on Wednesday. At this meeting, the possibilities of blocking the programme are more limited, and speakers with priority rights can speak. Mr. Okamura is suspected by the police of inciting hatred towards a group of people or restricting their rights and freedoms in connection with last year's billboard campaign by the SPD party.
