Pupil who tried to shoot teacher in Rudolfov being held in juvenile detention centre

A thirteen-year-old boy who tried to shoot a teacher at a primary school in Rudolfov near České Budějovice on Monday is being held in a juvenile detention centre, in accordance with a court order. The police are investigating the boy on suspicion of attempted murder, and must treat the case as an ‘act otherwise criminal’, that is, an unlawful act committed by a child under fifteen years of age.

"The motive for the pupil's act was probably problematic relationships with classmates," South Bohemian police spokeswoman Štěpánka Schwarzová stated on the police website on Tuesday. The pupil wanted to shoot the teacher, but failed to do so, and the teacher herself then neutralised the attacker. According to the police, the pupil stole the firearm from one of his relatives.
