Karlovy Vary councilors want Russian priest stripped of town’s honorary citizenship

Karlovy Vary councilors are seeking to strip Russian orthodox priest Nikolai Lishchenjuk who was extradited from the Czech Republic for publicly supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine, of his honorary citizenship of Karlovy Vary.  Lishchenjuk served at the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Karlovy Vary where he repeatedly expressed support for the Russian invasion in his sermons. The Czech authorities revoked his permanent residence permit in the Czech Republic and ordered him to leave the country. However, he was never officially stripped of his honorary citizenship of Karlovy Vary which he received in 2019.
