Prizes have been handed out in the 30th edition of the prestigious Czech Press Photo competition. More than 250 photographers competed in eight categories, submitting over 4,500 photographs. A selection of the best photos is now on display at the National Museum in Prague.
The main prize at Czech Press Photo went to AP photographer Petr David Josek, who captured an image of an athlete in the hurdles at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
Other award-winning images include photos taken after the tragic shooting at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, footage from Debates Without Censorship with Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, and photographs depicting the increasingly popular phenomenon of hobby horsing.
An exhibition of selected works is now on show in the new building of the National Museum featuring over 500 printed photographs and more than 250 images on screens and projections by 80 authors. The best of Czech Press photo is complemented by the work of Danish photographer Mads Nissen, specifically his project Sangre Blanca - The Lost War on Cocaine.
Also this year, the Czech Photo Junior was announced for young authors from primary and secondary schools who sent almost 1,500 photos. An outdoor exhibition of award-winning Czech Photo Junior images has now opened in front of the Czech Photo Center gallery in Prague – Nové Butovice.
