Falcon 9 rocket carrying satellite designed by Czech students
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from California on Friday is carrying 36 satellites, including LASARsat, designed by a group of Czech secondary school students. Several of them watched the launch of the rocket in California, the rest gathered to watch it on a big video screen at the HiLASE research centre near Prague. The project aims to address space debris by proposing solutions for remote malfunction repair of satellites. The cube-shaped satellite was completed by the students in cooperation with Czech companies within three months. The Czech student project won the prestigious international competition Conrad Challenge at the headquarters of the US space agency NASA in Houston, earning them scholarships to universities in the US.
