Czechia to push for ETS 2 emissions allowance system to be postponed by at least a year

Prime Minister Petr Fiala says the Czech government will push for a postponement and modification of the new ETS 2 emissions allowance system in the EU until at least 2028. Under current plans, the system, which is to extend trading in allowances to road transport and heating of buildings, should apply from 2027. The prime minister said the government needed the extra time to ensure stronger protection against the sharp rise in energy prices. He said the EU's green policy as overly ambitious and in need of revision so that it would not damage Europe’s economy and undercut its competitiveness.
