Ministries disagree with ANO MP's proposal to freeze price of motorway vignette
The Ministries of Transport and Finance disagree with the proposal of MP Martin Kolovratník of the opposition ANO party, who wants to freeze the price of the motorway vignette for next year at this year's level. Mr. Kolovratník wants to respond to rising costs for citizens; according to him, the impact of the measure on the state budget would be negligible. However, the Ministry of Finance points out that the State Transport Infrastructure Fund would lose money. According to the Ministry of Transport, the proposal is poorly written and potentially confusing, and it is unrealistic for the amendment to come into force on January 1st 2025. The Czech Chamber of Commerce also disagrees with the proposal. The government is to discuss it on Wednesday.
The basic annual vignette for Czech motorways is currently set to increase in price by 140 crowns to 2,440 crowns from January. Lower prices will remain in place for gas-powered cars and cars with hybrid engines. Motorway fees will no longer apply to purely electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered cars.
