Third attempt to sell Štiřín Chateau in electronic auction fails

A third attempt to sell the state-owned Štiřín Chateau in an electronic auction has failed, the Office for State Representation in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) said on Thursday. No one signed up for the auction with a starting price of CZK 1.7 billion. The office said in a press release that it would announce another round of the tender. The price of the chateau has been gradually reduced by the property office; it was CZK 3.3 billion in the first unsuccessful attempt to sell it in September. Another attempt was made in October with a bid price of CZK 2.5 billion.

The Baroque chateau with its English style-park, located some 25 kilometers southeast of Prague, was built in the mid-18th century. It acquired its present appearance around 1900 after modifications designed by architect Jiří Stibral. Between 1985 and 1993, the chateau was renovated so that it could be used as a hotel. In 1945 it was purchased by the state and is used for government meetings with foreign dignitaries.
