Police charge students who faked university shooting
Police have charged two students with misdemeanor and disorderly conduct in connection with the faked attack at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen on Wednesday. One of the students shouted Allahu akbar (Arabic for God is great), the other faked shooting sounds. The accused students are both Czechs, aged 24 and 25, and neither has been taken into custody. Police initially investigated the case as scaremongering but later reclassified it to misdemeanor, for which the students face a lower sentence, up to two years in prison. Following an emergency call from another student reporting alleged shooting on the campus, police launched a massive security operation involving around 130 officers, a rapid deployment unit, sniffer dogs and a bomb disposal squad. Over 1,000 students and staff members were evacuated.
