Fiala responds to Slovak PM's statement about NATO countries sending troops to fight in Ukraine

Czechia is not going to send military troops to fight in Ukraine, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said in advance of his trip to Paris to attend a summit on aid to Ukraine organised by French President Emmanuel Macron. According to the Czech PM, no one need fear that the country will go to war or that some form of compulsory military conscription will be introduced.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who will also attend the summit, stated earlier that several NATO and EU member states were considering sending soldiers to Ukraine based on bilateral agreements, which, according to him, would mean an escalation of the conflict.

Mr. Fiala said that he had long held opposing views to the Slovak PM and that Mr. Fico's statements about Ukraine would undoubtedly be the subject of scrutiny at Tuesday's meeting of the Visegrad Four leaders in Prague.
