PM Fiala highlights Czech role in EU solidarity
Czechia has repeatedly proven itself to be an honest and reliable partner to the other member states during its two-decade membership in the European Union, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on Monday at a conference entitled 20 Years of Making Europe at Prague’s Liechtenstein Palace.
Mr. Fiala said Czechia, which joined the EU on May 1, 2004, has shown that it can behave appropriately in crises and is ready to help the weak and show solidarity. He also said that despite it always being part of Europe, the country could only start establishing relations with European communities after the Velvet Revolution.
Speaking at the event’s opening ceremony, Minister for European Affairs Martin Dvořák said EU accession was an expression of the ambition to actively shape the future of Europe.
