Forum 2000 gets underway in Prague

The 27th Forum 2000 international conference gets underway in Prague on Sunday. This year’s event, which runs until October 17, is subtitled “For a Democratic Word Order” and the debate will focus on how democracies can work together to face common challenges.

The opening evening at Prague’s Congress Centre will be hosted by Azerbaijani journalist Arzu Geybullaïeva, with speakers including Hoover Institution fellow Larry Diamond and Iranian composer Shahab Tolouie. On Monday there will be a discussion with Czech President Petr Pavel and his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu.

Forum 2000 was founded in 1997 by then president Václav Havel, writer Elie Wiesel and Japanese philanthropist Jóhei Sasakawa. The aim was to provide a platform for personalities from various fields to name and analyse the challenges of the new millennium.
