Prague’s Museum Kampa celebrates 20 years
Museum Kampa, an institution best-known for the works of František Kupka and other leading Czech modern artists, first opened its doors in 2003.
Britain’s Guardian has ranked Museum Kampa among the top 10 best little-known museums in Europe. This would not have been the case if it were not for the enormous efforts of the patron and art collector Meda Mládková. Thanks to her, the museum in the Sova’s Mills building right by the Vltava on Prague’s Kampa, has become one of Prague's important cultural institutions.
Works by abstract master František Kupka are a key part element of the museum, whose collection now numbers over 250 of his works. In addition, it possesses valuable pieces by sculptor Otto Gutfreund and maintains a collection of Central European art from the second half of the 20th century, including works by Jiří Kolář, Karel Malich, Stanislav Kolíbal and Karel Nepraš.
In the last two decades it has also exhibited works by the likes of Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol and Julian Opie.
