Survey:Employees over 55 lack IT skills
One of the main reasons why people close to retirement find it hard to get a job is a lack of IT skills and a general unwillingness to re-qualify, according to a July survey conducted by the Chamber of Commerce among over 400 employers. According to the findings, almost half of workers over the age of 55 lack good digital skills and a willingness to work with modern technology. Employers say they value older employees for their experience, better work habits and a lower tendency to switch jobs. According to the Chamber of Commerce, companies do not make sufficient use of retraining and educational courses. This active employment policy tool would help alleviate the shortage of workers on the market. According to Eurostat, only about 8.1 per cent of the active population aged between 25 and 64 is interested in improving their qualification, while in the Scandinavian countries up to a third of employees actively seek out the possibility.
