Large forest fire near Písek brought under control

Fires were raging in several parts of the country on Saturday as a result of the dry and extremely hot weather. The largest fire in the past months broke out on Saturday afternoon in a field near the South Bohemian town of Písek, spreading to a nearby forest.

Some 23 units were called to fight the blaze, using three helicopters. The fire was brought under control on Sunday morning, but firefighters remain at the site as it is still smouldering.

A high-level fire risk alert remains in place for the eastern part of the country. In most parts of Bohemia, the fire warning has been reduced thanks to overnight rain.
