Convicted Czech “mafia boss” Radovan Krejčíř seeking retrial in Czechia
The convicted Czech “mafia boss” Radovan Krejčíř who is currently serving a 35-year jail sentence for attempted murder and kidnapping in South Africa, has asked the Municipal Court in Prague to rule that he is no longer a fugitive. He has done so in order to try to overturn a 2018 court verdict in this country where he was sentenced to 15 years in jail in absentia. Krejčíř has said he wants to defend himself in court.
If he is no longer considered a fugitive, he is entitled to a new trial in his presence under the Criminal Procedure Code. Krejčíř fled from the country in 2005 going into hiding in the Seychelles and South Africa, he was later arrested and tried. The Prague Minicipal Court should deal with his request in July.
