Bohemia Jazz Fest bringing world-class jazz to Czechia
The Bohemia Jazz Festival was launched in 2006 by the acclaimed jazz guitarist Rudy Linka with the aim to bring world-class jazz to the Czech Republic. Over the years, it has become one of the biggest and most popular jazz festivals in Europe.
The Bohemia Jazz Fest opened this week (July 10 – July 18) and as every year it has been drawing thousands of jazz fans to historic town squares and prominent venues around the country. This year’s line-up includes the Camané Quartet, Ranky Tanky, Tuck & Patti, Scandinavian Skies in Texas, Edi Nulz, the Pale Male Quartet and the Ondřej Krajňák Trio, among others.
This is what the country’s most acclaimed jazz musician said about the festival he established in an interview for Czech Radio’s Vltava channel.
"The word 'together' means so much more than we think. I remember when I was a kid and we were watching TV – no matter whether it was hockey or a popular series - and I knew the whole nation was watching. Today, it's not like that at all. We are such a divided society, I don't just mean here in the Czech Republic, but in the whole world. And I feel like we're losing so much. Our festival is all about coming together”.
