High temperature warning extended until Wednesday for some parts of Czechia

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has extended its high temperature warning until Tuesday, and until Wednesday for the eastern part of the country. People have been warned to stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and increase their intake of liquids.

In view of the dry and extremely hot weather, a fire warning remains in effect across the country until further notice. Meteorologists say that despite the localised severe thunderstorms predicted on Monday afternoon and evening, the risk of wildfires will not be significantly reduced. There is a ban on lighting fires outdoors and mounted police are patrolling the Bohemian Switzerland National Park which was ravaged by a devastating fire last year.

Czechia has been experiencing a heatwave since Saturday, with Sunday being the hottest day of the year so far, breaking temperature records for July 9 at most monitoring stations around the country. The highest temperature for that day was registered in Doksany in the Litoměrice region, where it reached 36.4 degrees Celsius.
