České Budějovice selected European Capital of Culture for Czechia in 2028

The south Bohemian city of České Budějovice has been selected as the European Capital of Culture for Czechia in 2028, beating the east Bohemian city of Broumov with which it was short-listed in the final round of the national competition. The title has been awarded by the European Union since 1985 to highlight the richness and diversity of European countries and to promote the development of the selected cities.  So far, only two Czech cities have been awarded the title - Prague in 2000 and Plzen 15 years later.
