Last survivor takes part in Ležáky memorial
A memorial for the victims of the Nazi atrocity at the Czech village of Ležáky in East Bohemia was held on Sunday. The last survivor of the 1942 tragedy, Jarmila Dolezalova, laid 11 white roses at the memorial, symbolizing the 11 children murdered in Ležáky as part of retaliation for the killing of the Germans’ regional governor.
The speaker of the Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, told the assembled that the task of mankind was to light the fire of hope; it is up to everyone whether the principles of solidarity and humanity prevails over the desire to rule over all, he said.
