Rakušan: No forced migrant quotas, even in crisis

The minister of the interior, Vít Rakušan, says that Czechia will not be forced to accept quotas of migrants, even in a crisis situation. Speaking to the daily Deník N on Saturday, Mr. Rakušan said it was no longer 2015 when the only alternative was each state accepting a calculated number of migrants.

The Czech opposition has accused the government of betrayal and failure after it backed an EU deal this month overhauling the bloc’s policies on migrants.

Mr. Rakušan said the new system, under which countries can pay to opt out of accepting migrants, was advantageous to Czechia, adding that solidarity was something that belonged to Europe.
