Ministry wants to impose recycling charge on mailbox discount leaflets

The Czech Ministry of the Environment wants to impose charges on discount leaflets, a popular form of advertising that reach consumers via their mailbox, Czech Television reported.

The proposed charges would be paid by the leaflets’ manufacturers and distributors. The revenues would be used to cover municipalities’ recycling costs. However, the aim is also to reduce the number of promotional leaflets in paper form.

The Ministry of the Environment estimates that such materials make up almost a quarter of waste in paper recycling bins. The changes are to be part of a forthcoming amendment.
