Inflation at lowest point since last April

Year-on-year inflation in Czechia eased to 15 percent in March, down from 16.7 percent in February, according to figures published by the Czech Statistical Office on its website on Thursday. Inflation is thus at its lowest point since last April. According to analysts, the slowing down of the inflation rate was due to fuel getting cheaper.

Food prices continued to rise, however, with food and non-alcoholic beverages 23.5 percent more expensive than in March last year. The cost of eggs, sugar, milk, rice, flour, and pork has particularly suffered, with eggs almost 75 percent dearer, sugar and semi-skimmed milk around 50 percent, and rice, flour and pork about 33 percent more expensive.

Overall, the price of goods rose by 17 percent year-on-year in March, and the price of services by 11.7 percent.
