Food banks close to empty ahead of spring collection
Food banks have been under siege in the past few months and are close to empty ahead of the national spring food collection, the head of the Czech Association of Food Banks Aleš Slavíček told journalists on Wednesday. He said the bank was now serving a much higher number of people than in previous years, including people from the middle class who had never needed help before. In the course of 2022 food banks helped 300,000 people, many on a regular basis. National food collections take place twice a year, in the spring and summer. The last one took place in November of last year and assembled 520 tons of goods. The spring collection is due to take place on April 22.
