Prosperity Index: Czech environment remains among worst in Europe

The environment in Czechia remains one of the worst in the European Union, according to a Prosperity Index compiled by the European Data Portal and Česká spořitelna. The Czech Republic finished 22nd out of 27 EU member states, improving by one spot compared to last year.

While the country has managed to slightly increase the share of recycled waste, it is falling further behind in reducing emissions, finishing below the EU average. As in 2022, Czechia scored worst of all EU countries in the share of land affected by drought.

The index assessed the state of the environment according to 14 indicators. Six countries fared worse than Czechia, including the Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, Luxembourg and Cyprus. Sweden topped the rankings, followed by Portugal and France.
