Fiala: Government plans more targeted welfare payments

The Czech government is planning changes to the country’s social welfare system, the prime minister, Petr Fiala, said after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Mr. Fiala said the government planned to deliver social welfare in a more targeted manner, adding that the aim was to ensure efforts to stabilise the public finances did not result in situation of citizens who rely on state assistance.

His cabinet is committed to making major reductions in the state budget deficit this year.
