Survey: Majority of Czechs against ending marking at primary schools
A slight majority of Czechs, 53 percent, do not agree with the Ministry of Education’s proposal to cancel marking in the first class of primary school, the Czech News Agency reported on Tuesday citing the results of a survey conducted by the agency STEM/MARK. The ministry proposed that pupils ranging from classes one to three receive a worded evaluation instead. 39 percent of the respondents in the survey, especially the young, said that they would welcome this change, with 8 percent saying that they weren’t sure.
Those in favour of keeping the current grading system say it is more objective and motivating. Meanwhile, those who want change say that worded evaluations would enable a more individual approach and decrease the amount of pressure on children.
