Unions slam lack of consultation over pension reforms

The Czech Confederation of Trade Unions has slammed the government for not consulting it on planned reforms to the country’s pension system. Unions’ chief Josef Středula said on Friday that this was a breach of social dialogue. He called for pension reform to be discussed at a March meeting of the tripartite, which also includes the government and employers’ leaders.

Mr. Středula said the strongest single union, KOVO, was discussing possible protests.

It has been reported that the government wants to make the state pension qualification age 68 for those who are today aged 34 or less. Men and childless women can today get a pension from 64.
