Deputy PM: No decision yet made on pension reform

Further detailed discussion of reform of the Czech pension system is set to take place and nothing is final, Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Bartoš said on Monday.

The Pirate Party leader made the comment a day after Czech Television reported that those aged 34 or less today would qualify for a state pension at 68; this was based on a Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs document agreed on by the governing coalition.

However, a spokesperson said the government had not approved any change and that the proposal in question was one of several drafted by economists.

At present men and women without children in Czechia can receive a state pension from the age of 64.

The minister of labour and social affairs, Marian Jurečka of the Christian Democrats, said on Monday that he planned to publish outline parameters of the reform next month.
