Prague City Hall coalition expected to form soon after green light from Pirates

The Prague branch of Czechia’s Pirate Party has voted in favor of entering into a coalition with SPOLU (a grouping made up of the Civic Democrats, Christian Democrats and TOP 09) and the Mayors and Independents, the party’s spokeswoman Martina Vacková has told the Czech News Agency, adding that 86 percent of Pirate Party members voted in favor.

The result of the two-day vote follows the earlier approval of the coalition by members of the other represented parties. The coalition agreement, which would see Civic Democrat politician Bohuslav Svoboda become the Czech capital’s mayor, is expected to be signed before February 16.

SPOLU is expected to hold five councilor seats in the new City Hall administration, of which three will be occupied by Civic Democrats and two by TOP 09 party members. The Pirate Party will hold four councilor seats and the Mayors and Independents two.
