US court rejects Smartwing’s claim for compensation from Boeing

A US court on Thursday rejected the lawsuit put forward by Czech low-cost airline Smartwings, which aimed to sue aircraft manufacturer Boeing for the forced shutdown of its 737 MAX model planes, Reuters reports.

The Boeing 737 MAXs were removed from operation in the spring of 2019 after two tragic accidents occurred. Smartwings wanted compensation from Boeing, claiming in March 2020 that the forced shutdown cost the airline around CZK 2 billion in damages.

A similar lawsuit issued by Poland’s flag carrier LOT was also rejected.
