Very long queues for special CZK 1,000 note

Thousands of people queued up in sub-zero temperatures at the Czech National Bank in Prague on Wednesday in the hope of obtaining special CZK 1,000 notes marking the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Czechia.

There was a line stretching around one kilometre when the central bank opened its doors at 7:30 am. Long queues were also seen at branches of the bank in other cities.

Some 200,000 copies of the note, which costs CZK 1,000, have been issued.
