Czechia’s 2022 budget ends with CZK 360.4 billion deficit

The Czech Republic’s state budget ended 2022 with a deficit of CZK 360.4 billion, the third worst result in the country’s history, Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura said on Tuesday.

The government originally planned a deficit of CZK 280 billion, but amended the state budget to CZK 375 billion in the autumn due to unexpected expenditures, including pension hikes, an energy saving tariff for households and increased social benefits.

Last year, Czechia saw a deficit of CZK 419.7 billion, while this year the state plans to run a deficit of CZK 295 billion.
