Border controls with Slovakia extended until October 28
Czechia will extend controls at the country’s border with Slovakia for another 20 days, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Vít Rakušan announced at a press conference on Wednesday. The checks at 27 former border crossings will be carried out until October 28.
The border controls were reinstated on September 28 in response to an increase in illegal migration. According to Mr Rakušan, the measure has so far produced good results, with the influx of migrants starting to decrease.
Since the reintroduction of the border checks, police officers have detected about 1,450 migrants and seized 39 smugglers.
