Vystrčil defeats Nagyová in keenly watched Senate clash

In one of the most keenly watched second-round duels for a mandate in the Senate, the Civic Democrats’ chairman of the upper house, Miloš Vystrčil, beat ANO candidate Jana Nagyová by over 20 percent in the Jihilava constituency. Ms. Nagyová is currently on trial for corruption alongside ANO party boss Andrej Babiš, who personally took part in electoral meetings in the Vysočina city in recent days.

Mr. Vystrčil told Czech Television that his team had beaten Mr. Babiš’s “100-member team and infinite amount of money”.

The Jihlava runoff saw a relatively high turnout of 38.3 percent.
