Car production sees rise in y-on-y numbers for first time in eight months
Automobile production rose by 3.4 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of 2022, the Czech Automotive Industry Association announced on Monday.
Car manufacturing was 8.5 percent behind last year’s numbers in the period of the first half of 2022, but the summer months saw a major increase, with the month of August registering a year-on-year increase by as much as 147 percent. In fact, summer car manufacturing numbers even slightly exceeded the pre-pandemic year of 2019, by 114.
The rise is mainly down to an increase in Czech production of Toyota and Hyundai brand vehicles. Meanwhile, Škoda Auto, the country’s premier manufacturer, saw its numbers still 6.9 percent lower than last year. However, the association reports that Škoda has also been catching up its year-on-year deficit over the past three months.
