Meteorologists: Zlín Region was hit by small tornado

Experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute have said that the Zlín Region, in the south-east of the Czech Republic, was hit by a small tornado on Thursday afternoon. According to preliminary estimates the whirlwind passed over a distance of around 1,200 metres and its funnel was up to 50 metres in size, Petr Münster from the Hydrometeorological Institute’s Brno branch told the Czech News Agency on Friday.

Local firefighters responded to around 20 emergencies in the afternoon and evening hours of Thursday. However, these were related to issues such as flooded cellars, or clearing away trees. Damages from the tornado were minimal.
