Press: Together group drop idea of fielding presidential candidate

The three-party Together group that makes up the majority of the Czech coalition government will not in the end field a candidate for president in next January’s elections, Právo reported on Wednesday. The Civic Democrats, Christian Democrats and TOP 09 had previously spoken about putting forward a candidate for the post but have now dropped the idea, the newspaper said.

One source said that Together were likely to in the end recommend that their voters back a “democratic candidate”.
