Universities considering long distance learning due to energy costs

Universities are considering switching to long distance learning during the upcoming winter period due to high energy prices. The Chairman of the Council of Universities, Milan Pospíšil, told the Czech News Agency on Thursday that Czech tertiary learning institutions will see their energy costs rise by CZK 1.5 billion when compared to last year to a total of around CZK 8 billion. Universities will not be able to pay for these expenses unless they receive help from the state, he said.

The head of the Czech Rectors Conference, Martin Bareš, is therefore in negotiations with the government about possible support.
