Green bill limiting use of plastics passes through Senate

The Czech Senate voted on Wednesday to pass legislation that would make it illegal to produce and sell single-use plastic cutlery, plates and straws, the Czech News Agency reports. The bill is in line with EU restrictions on single-use plastics and will now be sent to the president for final approval.

The upper-house of Parliament also passed a directive that would make it obligatory for plastic bottles to be produced with lids that cannot be torn off. The directive sets a deadline for plastic bottle production requiring at least 25 percent of recyclable plastics by 2025, rising to 30 percent by 2030.
