Prague’s Church of Saint Ludmila granted basilica minor title
Prague’s Church of Saint Ludmila in the Vinohrady district was granted the title of basilica minor by the Vatican, local parish priest Jakub Karel Berka told the Czech News Agency on Tuesday, adding that the Pope's decision is still pending in writing.
The title is given to churches around the world to denote particular importance in liturgical and pastoral life and a closer relationship with the Pope. The title of basilica major is only reserved for churches in Rome.
The church, located on Prague’s Náměstí Míru square, will be the only St Ludmila’s shrine in the world and the fifth basilica in Prague to be honored with the title. It will join the Basilica of St. James the Elder in the Old Town, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Strahov, the Basilica of St. Margaret in Břevnov and the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul in Vyšehrad.
