First weekend with no Ukrainian visas issued since start of war

Just like on Saturday, Czechia did not issue any temporary protection visas to Ukrainian refugees on Sunday for the second day in a row, making it the first weekend since the Russian invasion began in February that no visas were issued. The number of visas issued on weekends had already been relatively low in recent weeks; for example, last Sunday, only 11 Ukrainians received temporary protection. However, Saturday was the first day that Czechia did not issue a single temporary protection visa since the start of the conflict.

A total of 407,528 refugees have been granted temporary protection in Czechia so far, although according to a statement by Interior Minister Vít Rakušan at the end of July, data from school enrollments show that there are fewer than 300,000 Ukrainians remaining in the country. Many have returned to Ukraine or left for other destinations. Temporary protection visas allow their holders to stay in the Czech Republic for up to a year and gives them access to public health insurance, education, and the labour market.
